  • Self-Compassion Workshop (Free!)

Self-compassion is an immensely important practice that helps us support our own emotional well-being and resilience. It encourages us to treat ourselves with the same kindness and understanding we so easily offer friends and family. Although this sounds simple in practice, many find it truly difficult to notice and redirect self-judgement. If you have ever been interested in being more mindful of critical self-talk or wondered what to do when it is louder than usual, this session is for you!

We will discuss what self-compassion REALLY is, learn specific practices to cultivate it, and workshop techniques that feel authentic to you and your needs so you can use these skills in daily life. This workshop is open to parents and non-parents, and all gender identities.

This skills-based workshop will be facilitated by a licened clinical psychologist, Dr. Ally Legrand Hrindo, who specializes in women's health and self-compassion interventions, among other areas of expertise within adult mental health.

  • In The Thick Of It: Group for Dads of Children Ages 0-5

Ages 0-5 are notoriously some of the most emotionally and physically intense of all the parenting years, and also when co-parenting stress can take a toll on relationships. Here at ITAV we find it deeply unfair that fathers often do not have the same kind of easy access to resources, communities, and targeted advertising that mothers do, and so the learning curve can feel steep. That's before we even take into account gender norms, society's expectations, and the tension that can arise when you may be choosing to parent differently than you were parented.

This 4-week series of 60-minute groups is appropriate for anyone identifying as a father figure to children ages 0-5. Whether you're a new father trying to put a name to identity shifts and the many side effects of sleep deprivation, or a father of toddlers and preschoolers navigating occupational changes and stressors while concurrently trying to learn how to connect with your kids, this is the group for you.

Each session will have a theme with concrete resources and use of humor as appropriate in an effort to demystify the experience of parenting during this sometimes difficult season. This group will be both educational and offer an opportunity to hear from other dads who are going through it. Bring your dad friends!

    3/01, 3/08, 3/15, 3/22

    8:30-9:30am at Richmond Wellness

    $80/person for the 4-week series

  • Parents Night Out at Richmond Community Kitchen

We will host a night at Richmond Community Kitchen in which parents can get a night out and socialize with other parents over drinks and snacks, and hear a bit about what we do.

Date will be TBD by participant availability and interest, likely 7:30-9pm on an evening in February or March 2025.
